Kumuwai Permanent Supportive Housing

Kumuwai is a 30 unit building owned by the City & County of Honolulu, which includes 20 Ohana Zone funded units that are specifically targeted for elderly individuals transitioning from chronic homelessness.  The facility is property managed by the nonprofit Housing Solutions, Inc., and case management for the 20 Ohana Zone units is provided by the City & County of Honolulu Department of Community Services.

The 20 Ohana Zone funded permanent supportive housing units are site-based, meaning that they are tied to the Kumuwai facility.  The permanent supportive housing at Kumuwai was specifically designed to be site based to assist elderly homeless individuals who may otherwise experience difficulty in finding a rental unit in the private market.

In addition to aligning with the State’s housing-focused approach, Kumuwai provides a specific focus on the elderly, which is a growing segment of the homeless population.
